Smart Robots introduced themselves to more than 5,000 innovation and digital experts taking the stage at the FED 2018, the third edition of the Digital Economy Forum organized by “Giovani Imprenditori di Confindustria” and Facebook Italia at the MiCo in Milan on the 3rd of July.

The two inventions have proven their abilities by demonstrating the way in which AI and machine learning can be useful not only for managing complex production processes, but also for simplifying and streamlining simple daily activities. Yape – the first autonomous electric vehicle for urban delivery, and Smart Robots – a robotic arm which uses an “intelligent eye” to detect human movement more efficiently, recognizes objects and perceives the surrounding environment, interacted throughout the event with moderators and speakers, even serving them drinks.

«The future aims at increasing the performance of interaction between humankind and machines. We will make robots able to intuit, interpret and even anticipate our behaviour through advanced communication and learning systems. However, they will not be a threat to people, on the contrary! Robots will take care of repetitive processes and perfect them, while human beings will compete in strategic and creative activities»,  explained Vincenzo Russi, CEO of e-Novia, presenting the live demo dedicated to Smart Robots and reflecting on the evolution of skills in our digital era, the theme of the 2018 FED.

This is a path on which Italy is still struggling: it is estimated that within the next 5 years there may be at least 280,000 specialized open positions required to be filled by companies, but without appropriate coverage on the market. «We struggle to overcome these difficulties because we are not always able to trigger quality mechanisms of collaboration. However, we have shown with e-Novia that a different path is possible and through targeted partnerships with universities, we have financed research that has then resulted in profitable business. And we did this by identifying a strategic sector, in which our country boasts not only a very advanced industrial network but also the highest level of skills, envied the world over: mobility. We are convinced, in fact, that in order to compete internationally through innovation, it is essential to focus on the skills that render Italy unique throughout the world », concluded Russi.
