January 7, 2019
New versions of the vehicle, functional evolution, development of services, prestigious international recognition, important projects with some of the world leaders in logistics, food delivery and mass-market retail. For YAPE, the self-driving delivery system which has already become a veritable icon of Italian technology, 2019 will be the year it takes off definitively on a global scale. A year that the vehicle, created and developed by Yape Ltd, part of the e-Novia Group, will usher in at the CES, the Consumer Electronics Show which will be held in Las Vegas from the 8th to the 11th of January. And at the world’s most important technology exhibition, along with 5 other entrepreneurial ventures created by the Enterprises Factory, e-Novia, Yape will be one of the stars of the show.
After having undertaken extensive testing in several historical Italian city centres, after having honed its self-driving skills and having recently won the prestigious German Design Award, Yape is now ready for new challenges. The first challenge relates to its engineering development. The iconic model that we have come to know over recent months will soon evolve to allow for technical upgrades, such as suspension suitable for all kinds of road surfaces, a new load capacity, and thermal insulation for food delivery. The new version of the vehicle will make its debut in early 2019 in several new projects on three continents – America, Asia and Europe – with tests in mass-market retail outlets, a deal with a postal operator, with an operator in the field of last-mile delivery of food and packages, and with the evolution of Vodafone’s 5G trial in Milan, together with Polytechnic of Milan, the supermarket chain Esselunga, and the Italian postal service Poste Italiane.
This last trial allows YAPE to carry out tests in which, thanks to extremely high-performance radio communications, with the transfer of ultra HD video streams and latency in the milliseconds, the vehicle will enjoy comprehension and control of its surrounding environment in real time, and interaction with analytic and supervisory systems distributed in the local area.
e-Novia’s 5 other entrepreneurial ventures at the CES
Along with Yape, e-Novia will present 5 other entrepreneurial ventures at the CES, two of which are also established internationally in the field of Smart Mobility: blubrake, a multi award-winning scale-up which has developed an electronic control system that increases cyclist safety during braking, and e-Shock, a leading company in the application of artificial intelligence to vehicle dynamics. E-shock will present bluchassis, a digital chassis which integrates all the features connected to autonomous driving in the chassis of limited-production light vehicles destined for recreational activity, facilitating the features’ adoption. The brand new entrepreneurial ventures to be presented for the first time at the CES will be: WeArt, a ring that allows the wearer to fully share tactile sensation (temperature, pressure, texture) and therefore share tangible physical experiences; Stem, a system of drones connected to each other and to a ground station by cables which allow continuous control and power supply, allowing you to surpass the current limits of drone battery-life, making it ideal for filming intended for entertainment and in situ monitoring; BluAgro, a plant-stress monitoring system which supports farmers in the maximisation of production and in the efficient use of resources.
“With over 50 million euros accrued and 26 entrepreneurial ventures launched, in just three years e-Novia has become one of the most enterprising and dynamic players in the Italian hi-tech sector” commented Vincenzo Russi, CEO of e-Novia, who continued: “At this year’s CES we will take part with 6 companies which represent our ventures in the fields of Smart Transportation, Mobility as a Service, Smart Factories and Med-Tech. As well as Yape, blubrake and e-Shock, three companies which have shown their ability to be ‘born big’, bursting on to the international scene straight away, we will also take three new ventures to Las Vegas; inventions devised within e-Novia in partnership with some of the most prestigious Italian universities and with the productive sector of our country, which will now take on the most advanced and innovative companies in the world on an equal footing, proving that by using its own distinctive capabilities Italy can be a player on a global level, including the production of high-technology”.
